SARASOTA COUNTY - A former Venice YMCA youth sports director whose Tennessee home was found with numerous child pornography images nearly two years ago has reached a plea deal and will be sentenced in federal court next month.

Dan Quail, 33, entered into a plea agreement in June and will be sentenced by a U.S. District Court Judge in Nashville on Dec. 12.

Quail's plea agreement remains sealed in the child pornography case that arose after authorities found more than 5,000 images and 500 videos of children engaged in sex acts on his home computer.

"Until the sentencing, we are unprepared to comment on this case," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Lynne Ingram. "At that time, this case will either remain under seal or be unsealed."

Local investigators determined no Southwest Florida children were pictured in the pornographic images, nor was there any evidence that Quail abused any local children.

Quail's pornography was discovered after a complaint from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that he exchanged explicit pictures with a man in Toronto. He initially pleaded not guilty and has been held in a Tennessee jail.

Local authorities investigated because of Quail's relationship with a local boy he met at the Venice YMCA, where Quail ran youth sports and after-school programs from 1998 to 2008.

The boy left the YMCA program, and court records show Quail later tried to contact the child through social media site MySpace.com.

Federal agents said Quail had non-explicit photographs of the boy taped to the wall in his Gallatin, Tenn., home and had a file named after the boy on his computer. In that file, agents reportedly found photos of a different naked boy.

There was a possible second victim in Tennessee, where Quail worked at a Sumner County YMCA, beginning in 2009.

Investigators had also indicated they found evidence that Quail was trying to adopt a 6-year-old boy who lived in Ohio.
